This time of year brings about a lot of reflection.
When I was packing for college I split my stuff into 3 groups.
-The stuff I will use over the next four years
-The stuff I want to keep in a box for four years
-And the stuff I do not need or want any more

-And the stuff I do not need or want any more
Some of my possessions were easy to throw in the "get rid of" box.
The single sock that I have kept in the hopes of finding the other one...

Other things are a little more difficult to throw away...
Sea shells from the ocean!
Sea shells from the ocean!
The materialistic things in life tend to cause more trouble than they are worth.
They have this unnatural need of attention that districts us from other,
more important aspects of life.
Do not get me wrong, I also love things!
Ode to Things by Pablo Neruda is one of my favorite poems.
But in this season of my life simplification seems to be a major theme that goes hand in hand with my change in scenery. It has become a hassle to have things, to clean them up, to buy new things when the old ones are broken or worn out.
With less stuff to crowd my thoughts, reflection becomes ten times easier.
